Electrodes
The following electrode options are available for Pine rotators.
RDE - Rotating Disk Electrodes
RRDE - Rotating Ring-Disk Electrodes
RCE - Rotating Cylinder Electrodes
We can also supply stationary electrodes for general electrochemistry applications.
These single-piece rotating disk electrodes are ideal for applications requiring a high rotation rate and feature a well balanced, single piece design suitable for use at elevated rotation rates. he shaft and disk electrode are permanently attached, producing a precision balanced RDE useful at rotation rates as high as 7,000 RPM. The disk electrode shroud is fabricated from chemically resistant Teflon.
The E4 Series design offers a unique interchangeable disk option that permits the same RDE tip to be used repeatedly with different disk samples. Disk inserts (sold separately) may be fabricated from just about any material of interest. Standard metal disk inserts offered include gold, platinum, and glassy carbon; however, disks may be made from other materials upon request. Alternately, metal disk inserts with the appropriate dimensions may be fabricated by the customer. A tool kit is required to change the metal disk.
The E5 Series RDE tips feature a PEEK shroud which is designed for use at elevated temperatures. This tough and chemically resistant shroud material is ideal for applications where the RDE tip undergoes thermal cycling on a daily basis. Designed for fuel cell electrocatalyst research use, this RDE tip provides the platform you need to study catalyst behaviour from 20 to 80 Celsius.
ThinGap RRDEs feature a submillimeter gap between the disk and the ring. Choose between two ring sizes depending upon your application:
These electrodes have a 318 micrometer gap between the disk and ring and a 37% collection efficiency. This series is well-suited for fuel cell studies where the high collection efficiency helps with detection of peroxide from ORR catalysts.
These electrodes have a 118 micrometer gap between the disk and ring and a 22% collection efficiency. This series is well-suited for kinetic studies involving short-lived intermediates which must transit the ring-disk gap as rapidly as possible.
Everybody's favourite Pine RRDE design allows you to use the same ring assembly with as many different disk inserts as you like. Featuring our novel "U-Cup" design, the E6 Series is our latest line of interchangeable disk RRDE tips. Disk inserts (sold separately) may be fabricated from just about any material of interest. The disk insert (5.0 mm OD x 4.0 mm thick) can be of your own design, or you can purchase an insert from us.
Ideal for corrosion studies, the QC3 Series tip accepts cylinder-shaped inserts (sold separately) fabricated from just about any metal of interest. Standard cylinder inserts offered by Pine include several varieties of steel; however, cylinders may be made from other materials upon request. Alternately, cylinder inserts with the appropriate dimensions may be fabricated by the customer. A mounting tool (sold separately) is required to change the cylinder. Standard QC3 Series electrodes may be used from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius.
